Yändata' Archaeology
Indigenous-owned firm providing archaeological and heritage assessment & consulting
Yändata' is the first Indigenous led archaeological heritage management firm of its kind in Canada. Yändata' (meaning “village” in the Wendat language) manages and conducts archaeological investigations on ancestral sites of the Huron-Wendat Nation (HWN). Our main focus is on the preservation, protection, and promotion of the HWN patrimonial, ancestral, and cultural rights and interests in south Wendake (Ontario). We also work with other Indigenous Nations to ensure that their ancestral heritage is cared for appropriately. In this way, we are strengthening Indigenous Nation-to-Nation relations.
Yändata' is a joint venture between the majority owner Huron-Wendat Nation (HWN) and Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI), which aims at reconciliation and supports an innovative corporate ethic. The long-range objective of this joint-venture partnership is to build HWN expertise and capacity so that ASI can eventually withdraw from the partnership and the HWN can assume full control in caring for their ancestral and cultural interests and rights in south Wendake.
In hiring Yändata’, you will be working with top archaeologists, and you will be supporting the mentoring and training of the next generation of Indigenous archaeologists. At Yändata’, we ensure that the archaeological work taking place on your site is done with the appropriate protocols, in collaboration with other Indigenous nations in the region. Work with Yändata’ and enter into relationship with the ancestors of this land.
